ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 Points Table: Group A, Group B & Super 7 Standings
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 points table currently starts with every confirmed team on zero matches and zero points. The tournament does not begin until 2 October 2027, so there is no current group leader, no team has qualified for the Super 7, and no side has been eliminated.
The 2027 World Cup uses more than one standings table. The tournament begins with a three-team Super Series, followed by separate Group A and Group B tables. Seven teams then progress to a fresh Super 7 points table before the top four move into the semi-finals.
India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe have been placed in Group A alongside Qualifier A. Group B contains New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B. The identities of the two qualifier positions will be settled through the 2027 Cricket World Cup Qualifier and opening Super Series.

World Cup 2027 Group A Points Table
Group A contains India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and one qualifier.
All six teams begin with zero points.
| Team | M | W | L | T | NR | Pts | NRR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| India | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |

The order above follows the official group listing and is not a current ranking. No team can be placed first or last before a Group A match has been completed.
Each Group A team will play five matches, facing every other team in the group once.
India and Australia open the main World Cup stage in Cape Town on 7 October, while Pakistan begin against Afghanistan on 8 October. India and Pakistan meet in Johannesburg on 10 October. Group A concludes on 24 October when Zimbabwe face India in Victoria Falls.
World Cup 2027 Group B Points Table
Group B contains New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B.
| Team | M | W | L | T | NR | Pts | NRR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Zealand | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |

| Bangladesh | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| Qualifier B | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
As with Group A, these are not ranked positions yet. Every team starts level before the first ball is bowled.
Each Group B side also plays five matches. England and Bangladesh play their first group fixture on 8 October in Windhoek, while South Africa begin against New Zealand in Cape Town on 9 October.
How Teams Qualify for the Super 7
The route from the two groups is slightly different from a normal top-four qualification system.
The top three teams in Group A qualify for the Super 7.
The top three teams in Group B also qualify.
That accounts for six places.
The seventh and final Super 7 position goes to the better fourth-placed team across the two groups. The ICC has confirmed that the fourth-placed team with more points than the fourth-placed side in the other group advances.
This makes fourth position particularly important.
A team finishing fourth in Group A is not automatically eliminated. Its final points total has to be compared with the team finishing fourth in Group B.
The first three positions in each group therefore provide direct qualification, while fourth remains a cross-group contest for the final Super 7 place.
World Cup 2027 Super Series Points Table
Before Group A and Group B begin, three teams will contest the Super Series in Windhoek.
Their identities depend on the 2027 World Cup Qualifier and are not yet known.
| Team | M | W | L | T | NR | Pts | NRR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Super Series Team 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| Super Series Team 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| Super Series Team 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
The three teams play one another once, producing three matches in total.
Only the team that finishes first in the Super Series standings reaches the main Group Stage. The other two teams are eliminated from the World Cup. The Qualifier's highest-placed team does not take part in this stage and instead progresses directly into the main groups.
World Cup 2027 Super 7 Points Table
The Super 7 table does not become active until the Group Stage is complete.
Seven teams will qualify and all seven will start the new round with zero points. Crucially, points earned in Group A or Group B do not carry forward.
| Super 7 Position | M | W | L | T | NR | Pts | NRR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A1 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| A2 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| A3 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| B1 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| B2 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| B3 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
| AB4 Slot | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | — |
The ICC has pre-seeded India as A1, Australia as A2, Pakistan as A3, New Zealand as B1, South Africa as B2, Sri Lanka as B3 and England as AB4 for scheduling purposes. These are not guaranteed Super 7 places.
If one of those teams fails to qualify, the qualifying team that replaces it takes its designated Super 7 schedule position.
This is why the table above uses schedule slots rather than presenting those seven teams as already qualified.
Each Super 7 team plays six matches. With seven teams facing one another once, the phase contains 21 games.
The top four teams in the completed Super 7 standings progress to the semi-finals.
First place will face fourth, while second place plays third.
How Are World Cup Points Awarded?
The tournament-specific ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 Playing Conditions have not yet been published on the ICC's current Playing Conditions page.
ICC Cricket World Cup competitions have traditionally used the standard limited-overs tournament model of two points for a win, one point to each side for a tie, no result or abandoned match, and zero for a loss. The same allocation was used at recent ICC Cricket World Cup qualifying events.
The expected structure is therefore:
| Match Result | Points |
|---|---|
| Win | 2 |
| Tie | 1 each |
| No Result | 1 each |
| Abandoned Match | 1 each |
| Loss | 0 |
The final Cricket World Cup 2027 competition regulations will take precedence if the ICC publishes any different points or ranking rules before the tournament.
For that reason, all teams currently remain on zero rather than being assigned projected points.
What Do M, W, L, T, NR, Pts and NRR Mean?
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| M | Matches played |
| W | Matches won |
| L | Matches lost |
| T | Matches tied |
| NR | Matches with no result |
| Pts | Points earned |
| NRR | Net run rate |
The table becomes meaningful only after completed matches. A team with zero matches has no competitive net run rate, so an em dash (—) is shown until matches have been played and net run rate can be calculated.
How Net Run Rate Works
Net run rate measures the difference between the rate at which a team scores its runs and the rate at which opponents score against it.
In simple terms:
NRR = average runs scored per over minus average runs conceded per over
A positive NRR means a team has generally scored faster than its opponents across the relevant matches. A negative figure means its opponents have scored faster.
Large victories can therefore become important in a tight group. A comfortable win may improve a team's NRR considerably, while a heavy defeat can cause serious damage.
ICC ODI playing conditions also contain special rules for situations such as teams being bowled out before using their full allocation of overs and matches decided after rain adjustments. NRR is calculated across eligible competition matches rather than by simply adding individual match run-rate figures together.
The exact 2027 tie-breaking sequence will be governed by the tournament's final Playing Conditions once published.
Why the Fourth-Place Battle Matters
The most unusual part of the 2027 Group Stage points table is the competition between the two fourth-placed teams.
In many tournaments, finishing outside the automatic qualification positions means immediate elimination. Here, one fourth-placed team survives.
For example, if Group A's fourth-placed team finishes with six points and Group B's fourth-placed side has four, the Group A team would take the final Super 7 position.
This also means supporters need to watch both group tables rather than only the standings of their own team.
The final round of group fixtures could therefore affect qualification across both groups.
What Happens to Group Points in the Super 7?
Nothing carries forward.
Once the seven qualifying teams enter the Super 7, the Group Stage standings are finished and a new points table begins from zero.
A team that finishes first in its original group receives no points advantage over a team that qualified in fourth place. Every Super 7 side then plays six matches and builds a completely new record.
That makes the Super 7 a genuine second competition rather than an extension of the group standings.
When Will the World Cup 2027 Points Table Start Updating?
The first points will be recorded when the Super Series begins in Windhoek on 2 October 2027.
The main Group A and Group B standings begin from 7 October, when India play Australia in Cape Town. The group phase ends on 24 October.
A fresh Super 7 table then begins on 25 October and runs until 14 November. Once all 21 Super 7 matches are complete, the top four positions determine the two semi-final pairings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is currently first in the World Cup 2027 points table?
No team is currently first. The tournament has not started, so every team has played zero matches and has zero points.
How many teams qualify from Group A and Group B?
The top three teams from each group qualify directly for the Super 7. The better fourth-placed team across the two groups also advances, creating a seven-team field.
Do Group Stage points carry into the Super 7?
No. All seven qualifying teams start the Super 7 from zero points.
How many teams qualify for the semi-finals?
The top four teams in the final Super 7 standings advance to the semi-finals. First plays fourth and second plays third.
Why are Qualifier A and Qualifier B on zero points?
Their identities have not yet been determined. Once qualification is complete, the actual country names can replace the placeholder entries without changing the group structure.
Is net run rate already available?
No meaningful tournament NRR exists before matches begin. Every team's competitive World Cup 2027 NRR starts once results are recorded.
Are India, Australia and the other Super 7 seeds already qualified?
No. The ICC's Super 7 seedings are used to define possible fixture and venue pathways. Every team still has to earn its place through the Group Stage.
